  • IFRC DREF Operation MDRDO005 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Dominican Red Cross assist people affected by tropical storm Isaac by:  providing safe water and sanitation; promoting hygiene; disinfecting schools and health centres; fumigating to control mosquito breeding grounds; and providing preventivbe information, epidemiological surveillance and psychosocial support. 

     

    IFRC DREF Operation MDRDO007 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Dominican Red Cross assist people affected by Hurricane Sandy by:  providing non-food relief items, shelter kits, mosquito nets, safe water and sanitation; promoting hygiene; and providing pre-hospital care, epidemic control, and psychosocial support.  Note:  there was not a MDRDO006 DREF or emergency appeal.

     

    IFRC DREF Operation MDREC005 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Ecuadorian Red Cross assist people affected by floods by:  providing food parcels, safe water, and hygiene kits; carrying out community educational campaigns on dengue prevention and hygiene promotion; and fumigating and cleaning housing and public spaces.

    IFRC DREF Operation MDRGH006 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Ghana Red Cross Society respond to a meningitis outbreak by participating in the Ghana Health Service's vaccination campaign, educating communities on prevention and control of meningitis, and providing psychosocial support to affected families.

     

    IFRC DREF Operation MDRGH007 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Ghana Red Cross Society respond to a cholera outbreak by improving hygiene behaviour and cholera awareness in communities, and referring detected cases of cholera to health centres.

     

    IFRC DREF Operation MDRGM007 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Gambia Red Cross Society respond to a cholera outbreak by:  coordinating with the Government of the Gambia and the Senegalese Red Cross Society monitoring and responding to the disease; sensitizing the public on cholera, personal hygiene and hand washing; distributing detergent soaps and clean drinking water; supporting the Government of the Gambia's surveillance system; and transporting suspected cases from border points and open markets to health facilities.

     

    IFRC Emergency Appeal MDRGM008 requests donations of cash and in-kind for the Federation to support the Gambia Red Cross Society assist people affected by food insecurity by:  providing food, rice seeds, vegetable seeds, tools, fertilizer, and soap; promoting hygiene; repairing or providing wells and drip irrigation systems; assisting with screening and referring malnourished children, pregnant and lactating women to health facilities; and conducting cooking demonstrations with mothers to improve nutrition practices.  The National Society will also improve its capacity in preparation, risk reduction and response to future food crises.

     

    IFRC DREF Operation MDRGN005 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Red Cross Society of Guinea respond to a cholera outbreak by:  disseminating cholera prevention, sanitation, and hygiene techniques at community and household levels; carrying out sanitation activities in households of cholera patients; and providing safe water, soap, and oral rehydration salts.

     

    IFRC DREF Operation MDRGT004 describes the allocation of money from the DREF to enable the Guatemalan Red Cross assist people affected by an earthquake that struck on November 7, 2012, by:  assisting with assessments to better understand the scope of the damage to homes and buildings; distributing non-food relief item, shelter kits, and safe water; supporting rescue and evacuation efforts; providing first aid care and transfers to health centres; and providing communities with psychosocial support, violence prevention messages, nutritional good practices, and epidemic control training.
