Abstract:
  • The review examines the impact of Smiley Clubs across Armenia, finding that the centers provide meaningful educational, psychosocial, and social benefits for children aged 6 to 14, particularly those displaced or living in vulnerable conditions. Children show improved academic performance, greater motivation, reduced stress, enhanced emotional well‑being, and stronger peer relationships, while parents report relief through homework support, safe supervision, and increased free time. Volunteers and teachers observe similar positive changes but note gaps in training, structured planning, psychosocial services, referral systems, and consistency across centers. Physical space limitations, weak documentation practices, and limited parental engagement further constrain effectiveness. Overall, the program is valued by communities and stakeholders, and recommendations emphasize expanding psychosocial components, strengthening facilitator capacity, standardizing assessment and feedback mechanisms, improving coordination, and upgrading facilities to ensure child‑friendly, safe, and coherent programming.
