Abstract:
  • The document addresses the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, highlighting their impact on humanitarian crises. It emphasizes the importance of nature-based solutions (NbS) in protecting, conserving, restoring, and sustainably managing ecosystems to enhance resilience against disasters and climate change. The IFRC's initiatives, including the Climate and Environment Charter, Plan and Budget 2021-2025, and the Global Climate Resilience Platform, aim to implement NbS for climate adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction. The document underscores the need for a 'do no harm' approach, collaboration across sectors, locally-led NbS, and increased financing to effectively integrate NbS into humanitarian contexts.
